CLEAR-Doc doctoral candidates attend training on scientific project management in Nantes

Du 5 au 6 mars 2026

On March 5th to 6th, doctoral candidates from the CLEAR-Doc programme gathered on the Nantes campus of Université Gustave Eiffel for a two-day training dedicated to scientific project management.

Delivered by Adoc Talent Management, the session aims to equip early-career researchers with practical tools and methodologies to better structure, lead and communicate their research projects.

Developing key project management skills for researchers

Research projects require strong organisational, planning and coordination skills. Yet many researchers learn to manage projects through experience rather than formal training. This workshop provides doctoral candidates with a structured framework to understand the different phases of a research project and to develop the skills needed to manage them effectively.

Throughout the two-day training, participants will explore key aspects of project management, including project design and planning, task allocation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as project completion.

A hands-on and interactive approach

The training combines theoretical input with practical exercises and collaborative activities. Participants will reflect on their own management style, work on risk and resource management, and develop strategies for decision-making and teamwork.

Communication also plays a central role in the programme. Sessions will focus on leading meetings, improving oral communication, and pitching research ideas, helping doctoral candidates present their projects clearly and effectively.

The training concludes with a group simulation workshop, during which participants will work in teams to design and launch a mock project, defining objectives, roles and deliverables.

Supporting the professional development of doctoral researchers

By strengthening project management and communication skills, this training contributes to the broader objective of the CLEAR-Doc programme: supporting the development of well-rounded, internationally trained researchers capable of addressing complex urban and environmental challenges.

This session is part of the programme’s training activities designed to complement doctoral research with transferable skills essential for academic and non-academic careers.
