Yu GAO Multi-scale Urban Road Traffic Noise Assessment Methods

His background
I earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University. In my third year of bachelor's school, I was selected to pursue further education at KTH through the collaboration agreement between my bachelor's university and KTH. During my master's study at KTH, my master's program is Transport and Geoinformation Technology.

Key facts
I enjoyed history and natural landscapes. When I was in Sweden, I liked to hike across forests and lakes to feel the beauty of peace. In France, I'm more attracted to wine and castles. I'm trying to learn French, to get in touch more with French culture and history.

Summary of his thesis
My PhD topic is: to develop Multi-scale Urban Road Traffic Noise Assessment Methods. It’s fully built upon transport data at multiple scales(both microscopic and macroscopic). Compared to existing strategic noise maps, the noise receivers are put around buildings, making this model more human-centric. In addition, as the transportation activities are captured, the noise information could be expressed much more dynamically.

What's next?
Noise pollution, especially urban road traffic noise pollution, is becoming a more and more valued social problem. I hope my work can contribute to increasing the scientific insight into noise simulation and its impacts. After graduation, I wish to continue my research by postdoc, utilizing my skills in more intersection fields.
